eBay fees for US sellers

For most sales eBay charges two things: a final value fee, which is a percentage of the total sale, and a per order fee of $0.40 ($0.30 if the order is $10 or less). The percentage depends on the category. These are the rates for sellers without an eBay Store or with a Starter Store.

CategoryFinal value fee
Most categories, including clothing, home, toys and collectibles13.6% up to $7,500, then 2.35%
Books, movies and TV, music (vinyl is 13.6%)15.3% up to $7,500, then 2.35%
Trading cards, collectible card games, comics13.25% up to $7,500, then 2.35%
Coins and paper money13.25% up to $7,500, then 2.35%
Jewelry (not watches)15% up to $5,000, 9% on the whole sale above that
Watches15% up to $1,000, 6.5% to $7,500, then 3%
Women's bags and handbags15% up to $2,000, 9% on the whole sale above that
Athletic shoes $150 or more8%, no per order fee
Guitars and basses6.7% up to $7,500, then 2.35%

Most rates are tiered: 13.6% applies to the first $7,500 of a sale and 2.35% only to the part above it. Jewelry, handbags and bullion are different. One rate applies to the whole sale, based on which band the total falls in.

eBay charges its fee on shipping and sales tax

This is the part most sellers miss. The final value fee is a percentage of the total amount of the sale: the item price, the shipping the buyer pays, and the sales tax eBay collects. Here is a $50.00 item with $8.00 shipping to a buyer paying 7% sales tax:

FeeAmount
Final value fee$8.44
Per order fee$0.40
Total fees$8.84
You get paid$49.16

You charged $58.00 and eBay keeps $8.84, which is 15.2% of it. The tax itself goes to the state, but eBay still charges its percentage on it.

Does an eBay Store lower your fees?

A Starter Store has the same rates as no Store. With a Basic Store or higher, most categories drop to 12.7% up to $2,500, and several categories drop much further: consumer electronics, phones and cameras to 9.35%, laptops, tablets, PC parts and game consoles to 7.35%, coins to 9%. On the example above, a Basic Store cuts the fees from $8.84 to $8.28. Whether that beats the monthly subscription depends on how much you sell, so compare your monthly fee savings with the plan price in Seller Hub.

Discounts and extra fees

  • Top Rated Plus: listings with same or one day handling and free 30 day returns from a Top Rated seller get 10% off the final value fee. That brings the example to $8.00. The per order fee is not discounted.
  • Promoted Listings: you choose an ad rate from 2% up. It is charged on the total sale, but only when the item sells after a click on the ad.
  • International buyers: 1.65% extra on the total when the buyer is outside the US, unless the item ships through eBay International Shipping.
  • Below Standard sellers: 6% extra on the total, rising to 7% after four months in a row.
  • Insertion fees: 250 listings a month are free. After that each listing costs $0.35.

eBay's 50% discount on trading card singles over $1,000 ended on May 4, 2025. Some calculators still apply it. This one does not.

eBay fee questions

How much does eBay take from a $100 sale?

In most categories with no Store, eBay takes $14.00 from a $100.00 sale with free shipping and no tax: 13.6% plus the $0.40 per order fee. Shipping and sales tax add to the fee.

Does eBay charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The final value fee is charged on the total amount the buyer pays, including shipping and handling. Offering free shipping and raising the item price costs the same in fees.

Does eBay charge fees on sales tax?

Yes. eBay includes the sales tax it collects in the total it charges the final value fee on. The tax itself is still passed to the state.

What is the eBay per order fee?

It is $0.40 for orders over $10 and $0.30 for orders of $10 or less, charged once per order on top of the final value fee. Athletic shoes selling for $150 or more have no per order fee.

What are eBay fees for trading cards?

13.25% of the total up to $7,500, then 2.35% above that, plus the per order fee. A $25.00 card with free shipping costs $3.71. See the trading card fee calculator.

Is it free to list on eBay?

Your first 250 listings each month are free to list. After that, each new listing or relist costs $0.35 per category, unless you have a Store with a bigger allowance.
