PayPal fees in the UK for 2026
PayPal charges the person receiving a commercial payment. That covers selling goods or services, being paid through PayPal Checkout or an invoice, and money you receive after using "request money". These are PayPal's standard rates for UK accounts receiving pounds from a UK buyer.
| How you get paid | Fee |
|---|---|
| Goods and services, PayPal Checkout, invoice paid with PayPal | 2.9% + £0.30 |
| Card payment from a buyer without a PayPal account | 1.2% + £0.30 |
| Buy Now Pay Later (not PayPal Credit) | 3.9% + £0.30 |
| QR code payment over £10 | 1.5% + £0.10 |
| QR code payment of £10 or less | 2% + £0.05 |
| Buyer in the EEA | add 1.29% |
| Buyer anywhere else outside the UK | add 1.99% |
Payments from Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man count as domestic. The fixed fee depends on the currency you receive: it is £0.30 for pounds, US$0.30 for dollars and €0.35 for euros.
How the PayPal UK fee is worked out
On a £100.00 goods and services payment from a UK buyer the fee is £3.20, so you receive £96.80. If the buyer is in the EEA the fee is £4.49, and from anywhere else, such as the US, it is £5.19.
How much to ask for so the fee is covered
Adding 2.9% to your price does not quite cover the fee, because PayPal also charges on the extra you add. Add the 30p fixed fee to the amount you want, then divide by one minus the rate.
To receive £100.00 from a UK buyer, ask for £103.30. From a buyer in the EEA, ask for £104.69. The box under the result does this for any amount. Check that passing the fee on to buyers is allowed where you sell first.
Lower rates for regular sellers
- Tiered rate plan: on request, PayPal sets your rate each month from what you received the month before: 2.9% up to £4,000, 2.4% from £4,000 to £8,000, and 2.1% above £8,000, each plus £0.30.
- Micropayments: if you mostly take payments under £5, PayPal can switch your account to 5% + £0.05, or 6% + £0.05 from abroad. It applies to every payment once approved.
- Charities: approved charities pay 1.4% + £0.20.
Other PayPal UK fees
- Friends and family: free within the UK when no currency conversion is involved. Sending to another country costs 5%, at least £0.99 and at most £2.99. There is no purchase protection, so do not use it for sales.
- Withdrawals: moving money to a UK bank account or card is free when no currency conversion is involved.
- Currency conversion: for business accounts PayPal adds 3% to the base exchange rate when it converts money.
- Disputes: a £12 fee per dispute at the standard rate. Card chargebacks on payments that didn't go through the buyer's PayPal account or guest checkout cost £14.
