eBay fees, explained

Everything eBay charges US sellers: the final value fee for every category with and without a Store, the per order fee, insertion fees, Store plans and the extra fees that only some sales pay. Each figure comes from eBay’s own fee pages, checked on the date below.

eBay takes $7.20 and you get $42.80.

Most categories, no Store, free shipping, no sales tax. The eBay fee calculator adds shipping, tax, category, Store, Top Rated Plus and promoted listings.

The two fees on almost every sale

When an item sells, eBay charges a final value fee, a percentage of the total sale, and a per order fee of $0.40, or $0.30 if the order total is $10 or less. On a $100.00 sale in most categories that is $14.00 without a Store, or $13.10 with a Basic Store or higher.

What the final value fee is charged on

The percentage applies to the total amount of the sale: the item price, the shipping and handling the buyer pays, sales tax and any other fees the buyer pays. A few exceptions:

  • If you offer a cheaper domestic shipping option next to faster or international options, the fee uses the cheapest domestic option.
  • With eBay International Shipping, the fee uses your shipping cost to the US hub.
  • Athletic shoes shipped with eBay’s free Authenticity Guarantee label pay no fee on shipping.

Insertion fees

Without a Store you get 250 free listings a month. After that, each listing costs $0.35 per category, charged again when you relist and each time a Good ’Til Cancelled listing renews. Guitars and basses are free to list, and heavy equipment costs $20 to list.

eBay Store plans

EnterpriseYearly only$2,999.95100,000, plus 100,000 in select categoriesYes

Yearly plans are still billed every month, at the lower price. Only Basic and above get the lower final value fees. Starter pays the same rates as having no Store. A Basic Store saves 0.9% of every sale in most categories, so on the monthly plan it pays for itself at roughly $3,100 a month in sales in those categories, and much sooner if you sell electronics or computers.

Fees only some sales pay

  • Promoted Listings: you choose an ad rate from 2% upward. It is charged on the total sale, only if the item sells within 30 days of a click on your ad.
  • International buyers: 1.65% of the total when the buyer’s address is outside the US, unless the item goes through eBay International Shipping.
  • Top Rated Plus discount: Top Rated sellers get 10% off the final value fee on listings with same or one business day handling and free returns of 30 days or more. The per order fee is not discounted.
  • Below Standard surcharge: 6% extra on the final value fee for sellers rated Below Standard. Since July 1, 2026 it rises to 7% after four months in a row.
  • Very high “item not as described” rate: 5% extra on the final value fee in that category, rising to 6% after four months. Sellers who also have a Below Standard rating pay only the Below Standard surcharge.

eBay’s 50% discount on trading card singles over $1,000 ran from March 3 to May 4, 2025 and has ended. No final value fee promotion is running on eBay’s US fee pages.
