The referral fee is charged on what the customer pays for the item and shipping, before sales tax. If TikTok funds a discount, the fee is on the price before that discount. Payment processing is included, so there is no separate card fee.
Some sites report a rise to 8%. TikTok Shop's own US rate table, dated October 8, 2026, still lists 6% for most categories, so that is what this calculator uses.
Worked example with a creator
A creator sells your $30.00 product, the customer pays $5.00 shipping, and you pay the creator 15% commission:

Total fees are $6.60, or 18.9% of what the customer paid you. Affiliate commission is usually the biggest cost on TikTok Shop, so it is worth setting a rate you can afford before a video takes off.

Refunds
When you refund an order, TikTok returns the referral fee but keeps a refund administration fee of 20% of it, capped at $5 per item. Creator sample orders and orders cancelled before shipping are exempt.
