What Etsy charges Canadian sellers
| Fee | Rate | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | US$0.20, converted to Canadian dollars | Each listing, renewed every 4 months, and again for each extra unit sold from a multi quantity listing |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | Item price (including any tax in it), shipping, gift wrap and personalization |
| Payment processing, buyer in Canada or the US | 3% + CA$0.25 | The whole order, including shipping and tax |
| Payment processing, buyer anywhere else | 4% + CA$0.25 | The whole order, including shipping and tax |
| Regulatory operating fee | 0.50% | Item price, shipping and gift wrap |
| Offsite Ads (only if the sale came from one) | 15%, or 12% for shops over US$10k a year | Item and shipping, capped at US$100 per order |
The listing fee and the Offsite Ads cap are set in US dollars and converted on the day, so a listing costs roughly 28 cents. Change the exchange rate in the calculator to match your statement.
Worked example
You sell a mug for CA$40.00 and charge CA$5.00 shipping to a buyer in Canada or the US:
| Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
| Listing fee | CA$0.28 |
| Transaction fee | CA$2.93 |
| Payment processing | CA$1.60 |
| Regulatory operating fee | CA$0.23 |
| Total fees | CA$5.04 |
| You get paid | CA$39.96 |
Etsy keeps CA$5.04, which is 11.2% of the CA$45.00 you charged. Ship the same mug to a buyer in the UK or Australia and processing rises to 4%, so the fees come to CA$5.49.
Etsy Canada fees at common prices
Buyer in Canada or the US, no shipping charged, no Offsite Ad:
| Sale price | Fees | Fee share | You get paid |
|---|---|---|---|
| CA$5.00 | CA$1.04 | 20.8% | CA$3.96 |
| CA$10.00 | CA$1.53 | 15.3% | CA$8.47 |
| CA$15.00 | CA$2.04 | 13.6% | CA$12.96 |
| CA$20.00 | CA$2.53 | 12.7% | CA$17.47 |
| CA$30.00 | CA$3.53 | 11.8% | CA$26.47 |
| CA$50.00 | CA$5.53 | 11.1% | CA$44.47 |
| CA$100.00 | CA$10.53 | 10.5% | CA$89.47 |
| CA$250.00 | CA$25.53 | 10.2% | CA$224.47 |
Fixed fees hit cheap items hardest. A CA$10.00 item pays CA$1.53 in fees, or 15.3% of the sale.
Taxes on sales and on Etsy fees
Etsy asks Canadian sellers to include applicable taxes in their listing prices, except where the law makes Etsy collect them for you. Etsy's fees apply to the listing price as displayed, so any tax inside it is charged the 6.5% transaction fee too.
Etsy may also charge GST/HST, PST, RST or QST on its own fees, depending on your tax status and what you sell. This calculator shows the fees before that tax.
Offsite Ads and currency
When a buyer clicks one of Etsy's ads on another site and orders within 30 days, you pay 15% of that order, or 12% once your shop has sold US$10,000 in a year. Shops under that level can opt out. The fee is capped at US$100 per order.
List in Canadian dollars if your bank account is in Canadian dollars. If your listing currency differs from your payment account currency, Etsy adds a 2.5% currency conversion fee.
